(North American perspective here.) The only things that are available for cash only are skins, instance cooldown resets, extra event items, and things like name changes and remaking your character's appearance. All actual gear comes from playing the game.
PVP stands for Player versus Player, whereas PVE stands for Player versus Environment. The most basic difference between PVP and PVE is the enemy’s intelligence. In PVE, a player fights against the monsters according to a fixed pattern of artificial intelligence that is incorporated into the game. Gradually, with lots of practice.
Also, all new top level gear is tradeable until you equip it.The big advantage to spending real money is that you can sell stuff from the cash shop on the trade broker in game. That means you can buy gear upgrades a lot faster than if you just play. And upgrading gear (not getting new gear, but enchanting gear to make it better) makes a pretty big difference in your performance. (Also, running instances more often than the reset would normally allow lets you get drops faster and helps you improve your PVP rank much faster.)So the pay to win aspect is about getting to top level gear faster, not about getting gear that non paying players cannot get. And for extreme top level gearing, that difference could be months, or more, depending on how good of a guild you are in. NCSoft made a poor move and introduced a new server a bit ago that hurt the playerbase IMO.As of now Aion is a bit of a niche in NA. There are still big sieges where every player makes a difference.

After the merge it will be a very healthy and dedicated population on each server.I play black desert online, but I play Aion more now. There are really fun class mechanics and PvP is really fun at times, if you meet an equal match. Burying skills, weaving, jump shotting are a few of them.I tried WoW, GW2, ESO, BDO. This game still had what I want and like. Large skill and class variety with tab targeting and fun PvP. And that's all that matters to me.:)Learn your class and power your way through, for me the game started at 66.
A lot of events lately have also been giving out the plastic surgery tickets (what you use to remodel your character), so you can get those in game without spending real money too even.Enchanting gear isn't terrible. If you disenchant a piece of gear or break an archdaeva piece, you get enchantment stone dust. You can combine 1000 of those to get 1 enchantment stone.
Then, you can farm better enchant stones called omegas from certain instances and events. Supplements help you enchant, and you can get bags of it from trading blood marks for boxes of them weekly, and also events. And that's all without spending money.
The Luna boxes can also drop extreme crap though too. I typically measure the good vs the bad for all the gear. With the event keys from joker event, it was always a win bc I needed medals and supps. With Luna. There is a lot of worthlessness. Aion likes to play off that gambling system a little too much IMO.
It's very sad they are taking advantage of a few whales in the game with it.It would honestly make my naught work hard if they put out evened out stats for 6v6 arenas. But it's tough to get a fair match regardless. I'm usually waay over geared, or waay undergeared.
Originally posted by:Awesome 1 more reason to return/restart then:D it is a shame they wont make pvp 'optional' instead of forced they should know by now that most people are more into fast track than into the normal areas (where pvp is open).they cant, the whole Lore of aion run around pvp with the 'Elyos vs Asmos vs Balaurs' lore, and a mmorpg without pvp is not a true mmorpg. Actually they can (in some way they are doing it already but not fully yet) xD there always be people who LOVE PvP regardless, for example pvp in TERA and Blade & Soul is GREAT and is locked to the ones who want to go for it and those who don't:) You can see that the 'lore' about how many are playing in FTrack than normal servers could give you a clue:).
